Dear Friends:

I am writing to update you on the athletic director position at Washington State University and our strategy moving forward.

As most of you have heard, Jim Sterk is leaving WSU to take the athletic director position at San Diego State University. We all appreciate the contributions that he has made to WSU during his 10-year tenure as athletic director. Our athletic programs are stronger because of his leadership. Jim has done an outstanding job for our university, and we wish him all the best in his new position.

Our long-term strategy for Cougar Athletics remains unchanged. I believe that the future is bright for our program, both because of the continuing support of our Cougar alumni, fans, and donors and because of the groundwork laid by Jim and the strong staff he has assembled. Our objective is to continue to advance the academic and athletic performances of our student-athletes under the next athletic director. We also will move ahead on fundraising and premium-seat sales for the renovation of Martin Stadium, which is vital to the future of our football program and to our athletic program as a whole.

Senior Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator Anne McCoy has agreed to serve as interim athletic director.

In recent days I have received a number of messages from Cougar supporters indicating an interest in Bill Moos as a candidate for the athletic director position. In light of that sentiment, I have invited him to visit the Pullman campus on Wednesday, February 17. Bill is well known within the Cougar family and in athletic circles across the country. He will meet with the senior leadership of the athletic department Wednesday morning. He will then hold a series of meetings with coaches and athletic staff throughout the day and take part in a public forum with members of the university community from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Room T101 of the Food Sciences and Human Nutrition Building on the Pullman campus.

I believe it is important to bring Bill to campus to allow him to meet with members of the campus community to determine the mutual level of interest going forward.

I will continue to inform you of developments as they occur.

Thank you, and Go Cougs!

Sincerely,

Elson S. Floyd, Ph.D.
