Fall 2022

A growing reputation

Our program has grown in reputation in the past few years as our faculty and students continue to lead in tackling real-world problems that matter to people.

Taking the carbon out

A $2.6 million U.S. Department of Energy grant will support a team of researchers in designing and building carbon-negative homes to combat climate change in the residential construction sector.

Shifting water availability

Anticipated shifts in water supply and demands will combine to create potential vulnerabilities related to water availability across many areas of eastern Washington.

NSF grant supports eco-friendly roofing

Researchers are teaming up with a Tacoma-based start up to develop environmentally friendly, climate resilient, and affordable bamboo roofing materials.

Reducing fire risk

Professor Ji Yun Lee has received a grant from Google to develop a tool that will help agencies develop better fire risk assessments.

Student spotlight

Meet Civil Engineering student Li Wright: “If you show up and put the time in, everyone is willing to go above and beyond to help you be successful.”

Upcoming
Please join us for the 2nd annual National University Transportation Center TriDurle symposium Nov. 9–11. America’s aging infrastructure calls for innovative and cost-effective solutions to infrastructure management. The symposium will address durability-related challenges and solutions.

Building Connections Symposium: Students are invited to join Simpson Strong-Tie engineers for a day of building connections to learn how structural connectors and pre-engineered components help structures safely resist natural hazards. The event is set for Saturday, Dec. 3 on the WSU Pullman campus.
