Honors Students with Dean Grant Norton and Distinguished Honors Professor Monica Johnson

Washington State University likes to set lofty goals and the $1 billion Campaign for Washington State University: Because the World Needs Big Ideas is maybe the most ambitious. And yet, as the campaign officially concludes today, June 30, the University has not only met—but exceeded—this goal, thanks to the support of alumni and friends like you. More important than the number of dollars raised is what these funds have achieved and will continue to do as they impact every aspect of our University.

In Honors, we, too, are celebrating a successful fundraising effort that generated just over $5 million for our college. The big idea for Honors is all about our students. Our overarching goal has been to ensure that every Honors student has the resources they need to engage in INNOVATIVE experiences, and INTERCONNECT with peers, faculty, and industry professionals locally and around the world. As you INVEST in Honors, my ongoing pledge to you is to continue to work with our faculty to ensure that the Honors College experience at Washington State University is second to none.

Together, we will open doors that lead to life–changing experiences for generations to come, and our students will continue to excel in all that they do. They publish papers, they create companies, they volunteer. They make a difference!

With sincerest gratitude,
M. Grant Norton, Ph.D.

Every Honors student has a unique story to tell. Bailey Frankovich is attending WSU thanks to support from the M.E. and Maxine C. Johnson Honors Scholarship Fund. She is one of the 175 students who annually receive scholarships from the Honors College.
My name is Bailey Frankovich, and I am a sophomore in the Washington State University Honors College majoring in neuroscience and minoring in Spanish and psychology. I am honored to receive the Johnson Honors College Scholarship.

This scholarship will make a huge difference for my financial security, future aspirations, and overall happiness. As an out–of–state student from Boise, Idaho, the cost of attendance for WSU is extremely high, and I was facing the unfortunate possibility of having to transfer to another in–state university where I would not be able to pursue my passion in neuroscience or have access to the great wealth of opportunities provided by the Honors College. Thanks to your incredible generosity, I will now be able to follow my interests and remain at the university that I love so much. I will also be able to keep my position as an Honors 198 course facilitator for next semester and participate in neuroscience research. I truly cannot thank you enough or adequately describe what a difference you have made in my life.

I know there are so many deserving students who applied for this scholarship, and I am so honored to have been selected to receive it. I plan to use this scholarship to reach my absolute fullest potential and make an actual difference. When I graduate, I plan to go to medical school in order to become a neurologist. I have had many people close to me struggle with neurological disorders, and I want to help patients by quickly diagnosing these disorders, helping them cope with the diseases, and hopefully partake in research to find cures. I also plan to participate in Doctors without Borders so that I can truly help those who need it most by treating patients in third world countries.

Your kindness and generosity has also inspired me to one day give back to the university and help other deserving students achieve their potential the way that you are helping me achieve mine. I will never forget your selfless act of helping to pay for the education of a student that you have never met, and I will pass on that kindness to others. It is selfless acts of kindness that truly add up to make the world a better place, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for yours.
From Bailey and all Honors Scholarship Recipients—

THANK YOU!
Together, we continue to open doors and change lives!
