Dear WSU Faculty and Staff: Since we announced the preliminary budget plan on May 1, we have received a great number of constructive suggestions. The Faculty Senate and APAC have provided feedback. Members of the WSU community have participated in public meetings, provided input via the University Budget Committee's Web site, and contacted us directly with their observations. We appreciate your involvement in this process. Your input has provided us with valuable insight and alternative actions to consider. As you know, a university budget is complicated and the size of the required cut in state funding is significant. There is no doubt a reduction of this magnitude impacts the entire University and all those who care so deeply about it. Because of these important factors, we will conduct further analysis and endeavor to make appropriate adjustments to the budget plan in an attempt to preserve more jobs and programs while still accommodating the $54 million reduction. This necessary work cannot be completed by June 1. Therefore, the final budget plan will be announced within the first two weeks of June. While these decisions are too important to rush, we must also be mindful that the state fund reduction will occur on July 1, and we must be prepared to implement our plan on that date. Thank you for your many suggestions and your continued dedication to Washington State University. Sincerely,
|
