Seven faculty members in the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences
landed funding for research on specialty crops.
The Specialty Block Grant funds from the state of Washington and the U.S. Department of Agriculture will help researchers come up with ways
to battle disease and advance sustainable agriculture. The CAHNRS faculty leading the grant-funded projects are Achour Amiri, Gary Chastagner,
Wendy Hoashi-Erhardt, Richard Knowles, Carol Miles, Pius Ndegwa, and Sindhuja Sankaran.
Sola Adesope was named the Boeing Distinguished Professor of STEM Education
by the College of Education for 2017–18. Adesope is aiming at providing computing education workshops to middle and
high school students in the area to increase interest in computer programming.
A team of researchers from the Voiland College of Engineering earned the
TechConnect Defense Innovation Award
for their invention of an electrochemical scaffold to combat drug-resistant bacterial wound infections. The group of students and faculty was led
by Haluk Beyenal, the Paul Hohenschuh Distinguished Professor.
