Dear Colleagues,
The start of a semester can be an exciting, yet stressful time frame for our students.
As such, we would like to take the opportunity to remind you of some of the key resources we have
available at WSU and thank you for extending the warm Cougar spirit to each of our students.
Stress can impact physical and mental health. Cougar Health Services, which includes Counseling
and Psychological Services, is available with advice and workshops about stress reduction and self-care,
as well as health care. For more information, students can visit the Cougar Health Services website.
After hours and weekends, students can call the Counseling and Psychological Services crisis
line at 509-335-2159. Additional resources are available 24/7 through the National Suicide
Prevention Lifeline at 800‑273‑8255 and by texting HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line.
All of these crisis resources are committed to protecting emotional health, sharing resources,
and preventing suicide. For a complete list of crisis support services, please visit the crisis
support services website.
The following offices on campus are also available to provide support, information, and referrals:
Additionally, none of our students should experience discrimination or harassment at WSU. If you, a colleague, or
student witness discriminatory behavior or harassment, please contact the Office for Equal
Opportunity at 509‑335‑8288 for assistance. Please remind your students, if they ever feel
that their safety is threatened, they should call 911 immediately.
Each of us has the opportunity to make a difference for someone else in our community by
simply extending care and kindness. WSU is known to be a welcoming, tight-knit community,
and we need to demonstrate this every day as our students begin their higher education
journey and throughout their time at WSU. As we approach the fall semester, please remember
that “Cougs helping Cougs” is more than a slogan; it is truly an expression of
who we are. We greatly appreciate your support of our students and want to thank you for “Being that Coug!”
Sincerely,
