OFFICE OF THE PROVOST
Washington State University.
Dear colleagues,

I am honored to serve as interim provost at Washington State University. As a faculty member and dean at WSU, I’ve had the privilege of helping to advance our land-grant mission across the state and beyond for more than 25 years. And as a double alumnus, and first-generation college graduate, I am proud to continue in my new role helping to elevate our University toward the top 25 public research institutions in the nation while providing access to the life-changing opportunities a higher education can enable.

I would like to thank Dr. Mitzi Montoya for her service and leadership during her time in the Office of the Provost. We will continue to lead in several areas of student success and inclusive excellence that she championed, while providing service and resources to help our outstanding faculty and staff succeed.

The recent additions of Vice Provost Laura Hill and Interim Associate Vice Provost Melanie Neuilly have bolstered our support for faculty system-wide. The continued, and experienced, leadership of Vice Provost Mary Wack and Vice Provost Craig Parks will allow us to build on our momentum in the areas of student success, academic innovation, and system success.

Thanks to the planning and vision of President Kirk Schulz and many of our colleagues, we are poised to advance several important initiatives and projects over the coming months. A few of the top priorities are:
  • Making our faculty and staff hiring processes more inclusive and equitable system-wide
  • Minimizing administrative and financial barriers to student success
  • Continuing to strive for better efficiency and accountability with our budget model
  • Further improving our enrollment management process
  • Improving our coordinated planning system-wide to leverage all of WSU’s assets most effectively and build on our areas of strength as we seek excellence
The Office of the Provost is here to support our faculty system-wide. Our faculty and staff are at the heart of our mission, and we’re grateful for your hard work and dedication, particularly during times of change.

I am excited to partner with you during this interim year as we embrace the opportunities ahead. I believe we can make significant strides and set our next provost up for success in the summer of 2020. It is an immense privilege to lead WSU’s academic enterprise and I look forward to the progress we’ll make together.

As we move forward, I always welcome your questions, suggestions, and feedback at provost@wsu.edu.

Go Cougs!
