Dear Colleagues,
Please join me in congratulating the faculty and staff to be honored next month at Showcase, WSU’s weeklong celebration of academic excellence.
The University’s annual awards recognize outstanding members of the community for their scholarly achievements and professional acumen. Individuals selected have made substantial contributions to their disciplines, to the University community, and to society. Many have achieved national and international recognition. Recipients of these awards are leaders whose discoveries, innovations, pedagogy, creative activities, and outreach have transformed lives.
Among the honorees is the presenter of this year’s Distinguished Faculty Address: Hans Van Dongen, Professor for the Department of Translational Medicine and Physiology and the Director of the Sleep and Performance Research Center at WSU Spokane. The Distinguished Faculty Address honors a faculty member who has risen to the front ranks of their discipline through achievements in research, scholarship, and teaching. Dr. Van Dongen is internationally known for his studies of inter-individual differences in vulnerability to fatigue, deficits following chronic sleep restriction, and fatigue risk management. Please mark your calendar for his address, to be delivered at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, in room 432 of the Spokane Health Education and Research Building.
I hope you will take the time to browse the list of honorees below and visit the Showcase website for a profile of each. Be sure to extend your congratulations to your colleagues and show your support by attending Showcase events, March 25-29.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth S. Chilton
Provost and Executive Vice President
