University Recreation • inspiring active healthy living
On Sunday, November 15, Washington State Governor Inslee provided revised guidelines to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Further clarification of these guidelines means we must temporarily close our indoor recreational facilities effective Friday, November 20.

We know how important access to recreational opportunities is to the physical and mental health of our community—particularly during a pandemic.

Over the past 8 months, we have seen our students and patrons stay active, connect with others, and adhere to the safety measures put in place. We are proud to say those efforts allowed us to provide in-person services for as long as possible, and no cases of COVID-19 were linked to usage of our recreation facilities or participation in our programs. We also must recognize the contributions of our full-time and student employees. We are committed to providing opportunities for our current employees to continue their work through the end of the semester.

We will do all we can to meet your needs within these new guidelines:
  • Outdoor facilities (Valley Road Playfield and Outdoor Tennis Courts) will remain available for programming and open usage. Participants must follow all required guidelines, including limiting group sizes, mask wearing, and social distancing while using all outdoor facilities.
If you have suggestions for remote/virtual activities and services that will enhance your mental and physical health, please let us know. Keep in mind that all our actions and decisions with stay in accordance will federal, state, and local public health directives and guidelines.

While this news is disappointing, we understand the need to minimize the spread of COVID-19. Please continue to do your part. What you choose to do on and off campus impacts us all. We look forward to returning to in-person services and will reopen as soon as we are able.

Thank you for allowing us to be a critical part of your personal well-being.
