Dear Cougs, |
First of all, WELCOME BACK TO CAMPUS! After a long year and a half, it is exciting to welcome our Cougs back to campus (wherever you may be across the state). Our research team is working with Facilities Services to implement an Energy and Comfort Tenant Engagement Program. You may periodically receive emails providing energy efficiency and building comfort related resources, training, and tips to make your experience in WSU facilities better! Additional background, information, and a few energy saving tips are included below. |
FOR ALL FACULTY AND STAFF: |
SKILLSOFT ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND COMFORT TRAINING |
In the fall of 2020, the Integrated Design + Construction Laboratory issued a survey to the entire WSU community about comfort, energy use, and learning styles. We discovered that many participants did not understand how or when to make energy conscious decisions to improve their comfort. Over 65% of participants indicated that an online training would help them maintain comfort and reduce energy use! Based on your feedback, our lab has developed an Energy and Comfort Training module for all WSU faculty and staff, which is now hosted on the HRS learning platform, Skillsoft. We encourage you all to take this training, which should take you about 45 minutes. Some of the examples in the training are Pullman campus specific, however, the information provided is universally important. Please take the training at your earliest convenience. |
Note: Please sign in to your WSU Skillport online learning account before clicking this link, or alternatively if you are uncomfortable clicking the link, please search for “WSU HRS training” via Google, sign in under “Log On and Learn,” and then once signed in to your WSU online learning account, please search for “Energy and Comfort training.”
During these unusual COVID times, please follow University and CDC guidelines for any additional building operation guidance. For buildings without central/forced air HVAC, recommendations for opening windows for instance, may vary depending upon local COVID prevalence, outdoor temperatures, and wildfire smoke. Please reach out to your building’s Facilities contact with any specific questions. |
FOR STUDENTS: |
RESIDENCE HALL ENERGY SAVING TIPS |
Did you know that a typical, 200-square foot residence hall room can generate as much greenhouse gas pollution as the tailpipe emissions of a car driven more than 2,000 miles? Students, as you return to campus, you can work together to reduce energy waste. |

Visit this Energy Efficiency Day “Green Your College Dorm Room” article to learn more about reducing your energy use through lighting, heating/cooling, electronics, and appliances. |
Over the course of the semester, we will share energy saving and comfort tips, building guidance, and opportunities to participate more in our WSU Energy and Comfort Campaign! |
