Dear Faculty and Staff:

I am writing to inform you that I have appointed Dr. Bryan Slinker as Interim Provost and Executive Vice President for Washington State University. As many of you know, Bryan currently serves as Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and has a long history at WSU.

Dr. Slinker’s new role begins immediately and will extend through June 30, 2020. As interim provost, he will be responsible for overseeing all academic programs and providing leadership for academic administrative operations and enrollment management functions.

With his deep experience at WSU, Bryan will be able to ensure that we maintain momentum on the many important projects we currently have underway. I look forward to Bryan’s leadership as we continue to build a systemwide strategic plan, develop a new budget model, and create a systemwide enrollment management program. The success of these efforts is crucial as we strive to become a top 25 public research university by the year 2030.

Dr. Slinker is a double alumnus of Washington State University, earning both his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Ph.D. degrees from the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine. He has served as dean of the college for more than a decade. Dr. Slinker joined the faculty of the Department of Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience in the College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992.

Dr. Robert Mealey will serve as the interim dean for the College of Veterinary Medicine now that Bryan has assumed new responsibilities. Dr. Mealey is the Robert B. McEachern Distinguished Professor of Equine Medicine, Director of the Animal Health Research Center, and Chair of the Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Pathology in the College of Veterinary Medicine.

I will be announcing my plans for permanently filling the provost’s position within the next few weeks. In the meantime, please join me in welcoming Bryan to his new role.
