Dear WSU Community,

I hope that you are all enjoying the fall semester and staying warm wherever you may be. Around my office in downtown Pullman, the leaves have fully transitioned from green to a familiar crimson hue. It’s a shade I’ve been fortunate to see more and more in my travels across the state.

This fall, I am thrilled to be pairing with chancellors across the system to highlight campus achievements and discuss the future of WSU in a series of virtual Town Hall events. We kicked off the series with an exciting conversation around WSU Everett on October 11, followed by WSU Global earlier this week. I appreciated having the opportunity to discuss the latest-and-greatest happenings at WSU alongside Chancellor Pitre and Chancellor Cillay, and I look forward to doing the same at the rest of our campuses over the next few months. I invite each of you to submit questions in advance, participate in the discussion, and tune in to see what we’ll be working on over the next academic year.

I hope you will note some of the exciting initiatives and accomplishments emerging from across our system and take pride in your role at WSU. We couldn’t do it without you.

WSU Pullman

In honor of World Mental Health Day on October 10, WSU Pullman is reaffirming its commitment to support our students both in and out of the classroom. In an effort led by Cougar Health Services, all students at WSU (regardless of location) now have access to 24/7 mental health resources, including phone access to live mental health support services after-hours, a self-guided therapy app, and anonymous and safe chat rooms to discuss mental health.

WSU Spokane

WSU leadership, health care professionals, and Pullman community members gathered this September to reveal the space that will house the new Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine residency program at Pullman Regional Hospital. Funded entirely through philanthropy, the WSU Family Residency Center will usher in its first residents in the summer of 2023.

WSU Tri‑Cities

The Design-Build Institute of America has named Washington State University Tri‑Cities’ Collaboration Hall as one of 30 winners in the 2022 National Design-Build Project/Team Awards. DBIA’s distinguished panel of industry experts selected the top 30 projects across 10 categories to represent the best-of-the-best in design-build.

WSU Vancouver

Thanks to a $1.89 million Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award from the National Institutes of Health, Seth Rudman, an assistant professor in WSU Vancouver’s School of Biological Sciences, has the opportunity to explore new avenues as they emerge from his research on genomic variation and evolution.

WSU Everett

Washington State University’s School of Hospitality Business Management has received a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to research and develop virtual reality marketing experiences to increase brand awareness of Washington state wines.

WSU Global

This year, WSU Global Campus is celebrating 30 years of offering WSU degrees through distance and online delivery to residents of the state, nation, and world. In commemoration of this momentous accomplishment, Global Campus is highlighting the accomplishments of thousands of students, alumni, faculty, and staff through celebratory events and a 30th anniversary website.
